When we talk about hosting web servers, there are three basic kinds - hosting servers, VPS (virtual web hosting servers) and dedicated servers. Shared hosting web servers host a lot of clients and therefore the resources per hosting account are limited, VPS offer more server configuration liberty, but also affect other virtual private hosting servers on the hardware node if used unwisely, and dedicated servers give you the opportunity to perform everything you want without messing with anyone else.

Why would you need a dedicated servers?

Dedicated servers are traditionally much more high-priced than shared web servers or VPSs. Why would anyone, then, want to use them? The answer is rather simple. If your firm has a high resource-requiring website, or just has very exact server setup requirements, the most intelligent choice would be a dedicated servers. For somebody who is willing to invest in safety and reliability, the greater price is of no concern. You acquire full server root access and can utilize 100% of the dedicated hosting web server's system resources without anyone else availing of these system resources and messing with your web portals.

Hardware specs

The majority of hosting service providers, including us at (Phoenix-Computers), provide several hardware architectures you can select from depending on your requirements. The hardware configurations include different kinds of microprocessors, a different amount of cores, different RAM and server hard drive sizes and different monthly bandwidth quotas. You can select a Control Panel, which is a handy software tool if you want to use the dedicated servers for web hosting purposes solely and choose not to resort to an SSH console for all the changes you will be making. We offer three sorts of hosting CP software - Hepsia, DirectAdmin and cPanel.

The Control Panel of your choice

If you are a self-reliant Linux user (our hosting servers are powered by Linux or other Unix-based OSs), you could administer your dedicated servers via a Secure Shell terminal only. That, though, could be inconvenient, especially if you decide to grant full root-level access to somebody else who has less technical abilities than yourself. That is why having web hosting Control Panel software pre-activated is a clever idea. The Hepsia web hosting Control Panel software that we provide does not include full server root access and is mostly suitable for somebody who runs a lot of online portals that absorb lots of system resources, but desires to administer the websites, databases and e-mailbox accounts through a user-friendly Control Panel. The DirectAdmin and cPanel hosting CPs, on the other hand, grant full server root access and have 3 levels of access - root, reseller and user. If you intend to resell hosting plans instead of using the dedicated servers solely for yourself, you should select one of these two.

Server monitoring and backup procedures

Last but not least, there is the issue of monitoring the dedicated servers and of backing it up. In the event of a predicament with your dedicated hosting web server, like a non-responsive Apache or a network outage, it is good to have some sort of monitoring system enabled. Here at (Phoenix-Computers) the system administrators monitor all dedicated servers for ping timeouts, and, if you order a Managed Services upgrade, they monitor the separate services on the dedicated servers too. Backups are also an additional feature - the hosting company offers you data backups on our own backup servers. You could choose a type of RAID that would permit you to save the same data on two server hard disk drives as a protective measure in case of a server disk drive failure, or in case someone whom you have ranted root-level access deletes something accidentally.
